Family Fun Afternoon - 10 April, 2011

Bouncy Castle provided by Mitre 10 Mega

Well ....... the weather came to the party today and what a turn out we had.

Thank you so much to those of you who supported the PTA and our Family Fun Afternoon.  Also a big thank you to Mr Robertson who made himself available for this time.

In particular I would like to thank Helen Sidaway and her husband for leading the ponies, it was very labour intensive but the kids did surely enjoy it.

It was great to see so many of you and those of you that I spoke to seemed to have a fantastic time.  Our idea was that we all just relax and have a chilled out time and I really think that this was achieved.  The kids had fun on the ponies, the bouncy castle, a social game of soccer (even the big kids), and the slot car set filled in the 3 hours beautifully.

There was a great selection of food provided by everyone and the hot drinks went down well with the adults as well.

This may be an activity that we could undertake again but not through the winter months.  It may be best to wait until Spring/Summer.

Family Fun Day

The PTA have decided to have a "Family Fun Day" this coming weekend.  It is going to be held at the school grounds and if the metservice is to be believed the best day will be Sunday.

We are going to organise a few activities and the kids can use the school playground as well.

We are to bring a plate for a shared afternoon tea, our own drinks and a deck chair.

The PTA are also hoping to have a sausage sizzle as well.

If the weather is changeable then cancellation notification will be posted on the schools website http://www.yaldhurst.school.nz

A notice will be sent home during this week with further details.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

See you next week at school

Mufti Day - Earthquake Fundraiser

Hello everyone

Thank you all so much for contributing your spare change to the earthquake appeal.  The kids seem to really enjoy their mufti days.

We raised approximately $280.00 and this amount will be donated to the Christchurch City Mission.  They are wanting funds for food parcels over the coming months.  The PTA decided on the City Mission as we felt this was an appropriate place that would reach our fellow Cantabrians in need.

There is talk of perhaps having a day where we bring non-perishable grocery items along to also go to a charity that is helping those in need, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Take care and keep safe, Jeanine

Look after your family and your neighbours

Hello everyone

This blog is coming to you from Dunedin.  The girls and I have escaped for a break from the aftershocks.  We are planning to come back to Christchurch on either Tuesday  or Wednesday next week.

The PTA and I hope that you and your loved ones are safe and that you are getting through this time the best that you can.

On the day of the 6.3 earthquake/aftershock I picked up Alexandra from kindy and then went to get Jorgiana from school.  This latter trip took over an hour instead of my usual 10 minutes.  The drive to school was sombre and when i watched fellow Cantabrians driving to their destinations their emotions were etched deeply in their faces.  I was fairly shaken up and when I got to the school I was thrilled to see the kids watching a movie in the library with all the teachers there.  I personally would like to thank the teaching and administration staff for the kindness and empathy they showed towards me and all the other parents and also for the offers of somewhere to go to while I waited for David to come back from Dunedin.  This is what our school spirit is about and it was humbling to see it at work.

All fundraising initiatives are being put on hold as we (PTA) feel that there are more pressing issues that we all need to focus our energies on.

Take care and keep safe
